ZZ Top were formed in Houston, Texas in 1969 and the original line-up consisted of Billy Gibbons on guitar and lead vocals, Lanier Greig on organ and Dan Mitchell on drums.

Greig was initially replaced by bassist Billy Ethridge and Mitchell was replaced by Frank Beard. Dusty Hill replaced Ethridge when the latter was unwilling to sign a recording contract.

Born Thomas Alan “Tom” Waits on December 7, 1949 at Park Avenue Hospital in Pomona, California, the son of Alma Fern (née Johnson) McMurray and Jesse Frank Waits, both schoolteachers.

Mule Variations was released on April 16, 1999 on the ANTI- label. It was his first studio album since The Black Rider (1993) and won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
