The Impressions – “People Get Ready” from the album “Definitive Impressions”

The Impressions formed in 1957 as the Roosters consisting of Curtis Mayfield, Sam Gooden, Richard and Arthur Brooks and Jerry Butler as lead singer. In 1958 Jerry Butler left to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Fred Cash. They are dropped by Vee-Jay in 1961 and signed by ABC Paramount. They have several hits including “Gypsy Woman”.

In 1962 Richard and Arthur Brooks leave and Sam, Curtis and Fred decide to continue as a trio. It’s at this point that the hits resume and then just keep coming.

Aaron was born on 24 January 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His first major hit single, “Tell It Like It Is”, was released on a small New Orleans label, Par-Lo. It sold over one million copies, was awarded a gold disc and, incredibly, was the label’s only release.
